Launch of the profiling report from Rakhine State, Myanmar

After the launch of the profiling report from Rakhine, Myanmar in country, JIPS is thrilled to present the findings to the international community. Being a collaborative effort between the CCCM Cluster, the DRC, UNHCR and other actors, with the support of the Rakhine State Government, the profiling exercise provides a common evidence-base to inform comprehensive responses and the pursuit of solutions.


Selecting core durable solutions indicators in Sudan

JIPS has just returned from a three-week mission to Sudan. The mission came shortly after the workshop on ‘Measuring Progress towards Durable Solutions’, held in June. During the workshop participants, including a representative from the Sudanese Government, elaborated an approach for context-specific indicator selection using the Durable Solutions Indicator Library. The profiling exercise in Sudan is a timely and interesting context to test this approach.

Advancing the durable solutions project

The 6th global Profiling Coordination Training (PCT) proved to be a success. Challenging perspectives from field operations as well as headquarters, the PCT served to build champions for profiling beyond exercises supported by JIPS. A long-awaited report ‘Breaking the impasse: reducing protracted internal displacement as a collective outcome’ was launched at the ECOSOC HAS in Geneva in June 2017. JIPS welcomes the study’s recommendations to support Government-led profiling and joint analysis for improved responses.


ICRC’s Protection of the Civilian Population course 2017

For this summer’s ‘Protection of the Civilian Population’ course, ICRC invited JIPS to contribute by leading a session on profiling internal displacement situations in urban settings. Building on our experiences with urban profiling exercises from Honduras and Hargeisa, Somalia we discussed with the 30 ICRC counterparts from field operations around the world the usefulness of profiling in urban settings. 


Building practice for better responses in urban areas

The Urban Humanitarian Response Symposium, organised by the Stronger Cities Initiative, reaffirmed that a comprehensive evidence-base is critical for designing appropriate, context-specific programs in urban areas. This however means a lot of different things: from context analysis to vulnerability assessment to joint analysis.

JIPS Conference 2017 | Making data useful

In June, JIPS held its second international conference. During the one and a half days, more than 60 speakers and participants from a wide range of backgrounds came together to share their expertise and jointly elaborate concrete recommendations on how to improve the evidence-base for joint responses to forced displacement. The outcomes will feed into a conference report, to be published shortly, as well as inform JIPS’ strategy 2018-2020.
